Be the answer people see when they ask ChatGPT.

ChatGPT started showing ads in the UK in June 2026. They appear under its answers, matched to what someone is asking about. It’s a new channel, so I test it carefully, alongside what already works for you, and judge it on results you can count.

Or what ChatGPT ads are

  • Live in the UK since June 2026
  • Shown under answers to Free and Go users
  • Matched to the conversation, not to keywords
  • Conversion tracking available

What ChatGPT ads are.

When someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation, a sponsored link can appear underneath the answer: your name, a short headline, a description and a link.

There are no keywords to bid on. Instead, you describe the situations where your business is relevant, and ChatGPT matches your ad to conversations about those topics. Ads are shown to people on the Free and Go plans; paid plans like Plus and Pro don’t see them.

OpenAI says the ads don’t change ChatGPT’s answers. They sit below them, clearly labelled as sponsored.

How I’d test it for you.

  • Check it fits.

If your customers ask ChatGPT for recommendations in your category, it’s worth a look. If they don’t, I’ll say so.

  • Start small, with tracking.

A modest test budget, conversion tracking in place, and a clear benchmark from your other channels to compare against.

  • Write for the conversation.

Short headlines and descriptions written for someone mid-question, and situations described precisely so the right conversations trigger your ad.

  • Keep it or cut it on the numbers.

If it brings customers at a cost that works, it gets more budget. If it doesn’t, the budget goes back to what does.

It’s new. Nobody has years of data on ChatGPT ads, me included. I’ll test it with a budget you’re comfortable with and tell you plainly what it did.

I don’t guarantee results, and I’ll tell you upfront if £1.5K a month plus ad spend isn’t right for you yet.

Straight answers, before you ask

Yes. Ads started showing to UK users in June 2026, and UK advertisers can buy them through OpenAI’s self-serve Ads Manager.

People using ChatGPT on the Free and Go plans. Paid plans such as Plus and Pro don’t show ads.

Not to start with. I’d test ChatGPT ads alongside what already works, and only move budget if the numbers say so.

OpenAI says they don’t. The ad appears below the answer and is labelled as sponsored.

£1.5K a month for my work, plus your ad spend. Below that, paid media rarely has room to prove itself, and I’ll tell you honestly if that’s your situation.
